MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- Memphis City FC were held to a 2-2 tie Saturday night vs. Mississippi Brilla in the opening game of the 2018 campaign. After conceding an early goal, City fought back to lead the match but were denied a first win by a stoppage time Brilla goal.
Mississippi Brilla opened the scoring in the 8th minute, as forward Ali Brador headed home a free kick from 6 yards out.
Memphis equalized just before half time after midfielder David Zalzman slipped a pass through to forward Peyton McKnatt from just inside the half. McKnatt held off his defender and slotted home neatly to record his first goal for the club.
Memphis took the lead just before the hour mark as substitute striker Jared Greene beat the offside trap and finished clinically from just outside the box.
Mississippi Brilla denied Memphis all three points with a late goal from forward Sinclair Sandy.
Memphis City heads to Birmingham, Ala. midweek to take on the Birmingham Hammers. The next home match is on May 31 vs Peachtree City at Christian Brothers University. Gates open at 6:00 p.m., with kickoff set for 7:00.
